2013 is well underway and one of our first activities this year was attendance at ALIA Online 2013, in Brisbane. Held for the first time at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition centre, the conference was well attended and offered delegates a varied program of interesting presentations and an excellent Trade Exhibition. The venue was ideal and well located, the catering superb and the Exhibition Hall was buzzing with visitors keen to catch up on the latest technologies and services. At Maxus stand we enjoyed talking to both current and potential Inmagic users. Presto and its new sibling Presto for DB/Text were particularly popular. If you weren’t able to be there but would like to find out about any of Maxus activities and software, just drop us an email!
New Products
The first new products released in 2013 are Inmagic DB/Text Works version 14 (see "Inmagic news") and Maxus URL Shortener (see "In Focus").

Text Works v14
|
|
DB/Text Works v14.0 will be released shortly for clients on current maintenance. The new features include:
- Profiles. You can now create, save, name, and select from multiple sets of parameters to use when importing records, exporting records, and sending email reports.
- Correcting a validation list term can now update affected records. Previously, correcting a typographical error in a validation list (that already contains the correctly spelled term) did not cause affected records to be updated as well. The error message reported that the target term was already in the list and did not go further. Now, that message has OK and Cancel buttons. Cancel behaves as before. OK permits the records to be updated.
- Updated spell-check engine. The spell-check software and dictionaries have been updated.
More information about the new features is provided in Inmagic’s documentation and look out for our tips for details on some of these functions.

In Focus
Maxus URL Shortener
|
|
Canned queries for Web Publisher Pro textbases are great shortcuts to bring users’ attention to groups of records, or to link to individual records. However, they tend to be extremely long and unfriendly looking, eg. to find a record in Web Publisher PRO’s sample cars textbase on Maxus web server, here is the canned query
http://web.maxus.net.au/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpub.dll?TN=cars&XC=/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpub.dll &BU=http://web.maxus.net.au/dbtw-wpd/sample/carsqs.htm&AC=QBE_QUERY&RN=0&MR=20&TR=0&CS=0& TX=1000&ES=0&XP=&RF=images and text&RL=1&EL=0&DL=0&NP=3&QF0=Product Number&QI0=AP3673
Not a pretty sight! And when sent by email it is possible that the link might get truncated and broken.
But use Maxus URL Shortener to substitute a link like this http://tinyurl.com/bt2xdb5 and the problem goes away!
Contact Maxus if you would like to find out more.

Tip
Sending records to EndNote from Web Publisher Pro
|
|
Many of our Inmagic clients have users who also use EndNote to prepare citations for conference papers, articles or reports. In April 2010, Maxus provided a Hint Sheet for capturing records from Text Works, Web Publisher Pro or Genie textbases with bibliographic records to import into EndNote.
Recently, one of our users discovered that the web version of their form was not working to import their records into EndNote. On investigation, we found that the web browser no longer retains the appropriate number of spaces after the tag to enable EndNote to recognise the record for import.
Designing a report in RIS format to use with EndNote for Web Publisher PRO now requires using HTML code in order to retain all the required spacing and formatting. Using the Text Works form design, create a form that looks like . . .

To create records that can be accepted in the EndNote RIS format must look like this:

The field Tags are the ones required by EndNote, and they are always separated from the entries by two spaces hyphen space. Repeating fields must have repeating tags. Each Record ends with an empty ER - tag. The details are in Maxus Tip “Sending WPP records to EndNote”.
Maxus will be happy to assist you with enabling a form for importing into EndNote from Inmagic Web Publisher Pro searches.
