Latest Presto version fills market gap  [August 2010]

Recently released, Inmagic Presto v3.5 provides enhanced functionality to users including:

  • discussion forums, to facilitate topic-specific collaboration;
  • content relations, which establish a one-to-one or one-to-many relationship between Presto objects;
  • Web reports, created from within Presto. Copy or filter a report. A new option, Report on Content, displays search results in a report;
  • extended single sign-on (SSO), which allows authentication of third-party applications; and
  • improved overall performance optimisation for large enterprise organisations.

"As adoption of Social Knowledge Networks continues to accelerate, Inmagic continues to enhance and extend capabilities to meet needs and requirements of our customers," says Bob Warren, Vice President of Products at Inmagic. "Presto 3.5 extends the application of Social Knowledge Networks through KnowledgeNets, putting collaborative relationships between experts and staff in the context of business objectives, and improves performance and security for a more holistic approach to information access and collaboration."

Social KN adoption best practice  [July 2010]

The key to the success of any new technology initiative is adoption. The most difficult step is bridging the gap between early adopters and the early majority. Inmagic has found several similarities among clients that have enabled them to successfully implement and facilitate adoption of Social Knowledge Networks (SKNs). The learnings and strategies have been documented in Inmagic's latest white paper.

In this paper, Bob Warren (Inmagic Vice President of Products) lays out some proven best practices for encouraging and facilitating adoption that he has noticed surfacing among companies as they build adoption of their SKNs across their teams, departments and organisations. This is a practical collection of do's and don'ts, drawn from Inmagic customers' experiences together with industry research.

This white Paper Social Knowledge Networks: Adoption Strategies and Best Practices can be downloaded from the Inmagic website. Note: You will need to register or login - then go to Inmagic White paper page and click on the paper's title, "Social Knowledge Networks -- Adoption Strategies and Best Practices." The paper will begin downloading. (Registration gives you access to all Inmagic's white papers and other educational resources). More information on Inmagic's blog

Microsoft ends support for older versions of OS  [July 2010]

From July 13, 2010, Microsoft will end support for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and older Server products. This is in line with their product life cycle policy and means there will be no more security updates for these versions. For clients using Inmagic software (Text Works, Web Publisher PRO, Genie or Presto) on Windows Operating Systems (OS), Maxus and your IT support may not be able to help resolve issues or outages in your environment.

To avoid running any unsupported products and assist with your IT planning for 2010, Microsoft strongly recommends that you should have:

  • Migrated to newer, supported versions of these products; or
  • Have a plan to migrate soon; or
  • Purchased a custom support agreement to remain on the end of life products; or
  • Have investigated and accepted the risk associated with using unsupported products.

What are the options available to mitigate against increased vulnerability to security risks?

  • For Windows XP, there are two upgrade options: either deploy the latest Service Pack - SP3 or a more recent supported version of the OS, such as Windows 7. Similarly, you can upgrade Windows Vista to Service Pack 2, or to Windows 7.
  • For Windows 2000 Server, the upgrade options are Windows Server 2003 R2 or Windows Server 2008 R2. (Windows Server 2008 R2 will be supported until 2018 and offers many advantages, particularly in the areas of virtualization, security and manageability.

If you are unsure how you may be affected, please call Maxus or your local representative for advice.

Presto Case study of Australian Transport eLibrary  [May 2010]

The Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) has implemented Inmagic Presto for its elibrary to provide access to a growing number of documents and resources for the Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC). The TLISC eLibrary presently consists of more than 1000 Word and PDF documents, PowerPoint presentations and Links. These are classified in Presto through browsable taxonomies devised by Amanda Thomas, Director, Research and Policy at TLISC. Amanda says “once we found Presto, it was difficult to be satisified with products that offered less functionality.”

Inmagic continues strong growth  [November 2009]

In the current economic climate and cost sensitivities in the marketplace, Inmagic’s performance this year has continued to experience strong growth. This trend is also apparent locally where we are still seeing high interest in Inmagic software for applications from small museum collections to KM with Presto. In addition to the company’s ongoing growth and acquisition of major new clients, Inmagic has been named in Software Magazine’s list of the world’s 500 largest software and service providers.

Ron Matros, President and CEO of Inmagic says “Our customers are realizing genuine cost savings from Social Knowledge Networks, and are turning to Presto as a cost-effective solution for capturing, sharing, and socializing information for increased collaboration and productivity within the enterprise. Our DB/Text Library and collections management solutions continue to reflect positive momentum, as renewal and upgrade rates remain high."

What makes Inmagic Presto! different  [September 2009]

Many vendors are jockeying for market share of the Enterprise 2.0 space right now. Each company has its own take on E2.0, and is offering a slightly varied solution which will (they claim) solve your knowledge/collaboration/innovation/time-to-market challenges. Inmagic believes it is important to be clear about what sets Inmagic and its Web 2.0 offering Presto! apart from the crowd.

As Inmagic has stated before, there is no one-size-fits-all enterprise 2.0 solution. Inmagic has summarised the basic differentiators between Inmagic and other E2.0 vendors based on what our customers have told us about their Presto implementations and our market intelligence. Inmagic’s SKNs differences are:

  • Content <> Context <> People - connecting all 3 areas of knowledge
  • Unites content producers and content consumers
  • Requires few participants to be successful
  • Social controls (social volume knob) monitor and control content production
  • Augments existing KM infrastructure, such as SharePoint
  • Consolidates information silos by providing a portal with a social intelligence layer to managed, moderated, federated, and cached content
  • Integrates easily into existing workflow and culture
