Contact Maxus or your local representative if you would like to see a demonstration of this latest release of Inmagic’s fully web-based Library Management System. Congratulations How nice to see several Inmagic software users being honoured with awards for their services to the communities in which they work: some of those highlighted recently include the Health Libraries sector, Archives, Museums and even Library Suppliers. Congratulations and best wishes to you all from Maxus. Kerry Johannes is the recipient of the 2008 HLI Life Membership Award. Kerry has contributed in many ways to the development of the Victorian Health Library Sector and to both ALIA and HLI during her lengthy career in Libraries. The presentation was made at the annual HLI dinner which was enjoyed by all who attended. Museums Australia’s Archival Survival Museum Award went to the Gold Museum Ballarat for its exemplary exhibitions and public programs reaching out to the diverse Ballarat communities over an extended period. These include its community outreach, Koorie Community Memorandum of Understanding and disaster recovery network programs. MA’s Individual Achievement Award (volunteer) for the first time was awarded to two exceptional nominees. Judges noted that both Marjorie Dalvean and Nance Fordham have inspired countless people over several decades to accomplish great feats in a volunteer capacity. Marjorie established the archiving program at the Melbourne Athenaeum and Nance has been the driving force behind the Port Albert Maritime Museum since its inception over twenty-five years ago. Read more about these awards at http://www.mavic.asn.au/victorian-museum-awards/award-winners-2008/. At the April 22, 2008 Annual Awards Banquet for the North Carolina Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (NC/SLA), Ann Stringfield of InfoCrofters was honoured with the Meritorious Achievement Award for "notable and enduring contributions" to the NC/SLA Chapter and the Special Libraries profession. The July-August issue of Insite Magazine contains mentions and articles about several other Inmagic software users around Victoria: Latrobe Regional Gallery, Gippsland Art Gallery, Stratford and District Historical Society, Gippsland and Regional Maritime Museum Port Albert, Dunkeld Museum, Nepean Historical Society, Clunes Museum and the Victoria Police Museum! Wow – what an active group they are. Maxus Workshops Another successful and well attended workshop (on recently added features in TextWorks) was held on Wednesday 20 August. Attendees found lots to interest them in a joint presentation by Barbara Kowalski and Pam Millist. Our next workshop will be of interest to WebPublisher PRO users, or those who are moving towards a web presence. It will be held in November and focuses on Web 2.0 capabilities of WebPublisher PRO: RSS feeds and using the Google-like search syntax. Check our Workshops page in a few weeks for details. Melbourne Inmagic User Group meeting ACER gave us a warm welcome on a cold, wet evening (21 August) and also entertained us with a very impressive array of achievements in WebPublisher PRO. Inmagic software is used extensively to manage not just a library catalogue, but a number of other databases, which are available for access through a range of publications: online subscriptions, public internet, through federated searching and even in print. Thanks to Lance Deveson, Tine Grimston and other ACER personnel for the hospitality and excellent presentation. The next meeting will be the end of year event at the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre on 12 November. See our User Group page for details closer to that date. The User Group Committee are keen to hear from anyone who would like to host a meeting in 2009. You can make contact with the committee via maxus@maxus.net.au. Inmagic Support Resources All users of Inmagic software on current software maintenance have access to Maxus’ (or their local Inmagic representative’s) free helpdesk service for quickly solvable software problems, as well as a number of support “incidents” for more in depth solutions.
