Record Rating and Scoring Service
Let BookWhere help you choose the best MARC cataloguing record. Our Record Scoring and Rating Service, available to each WebClarity Maintenance subscriber, lets BookWhere help you easily select the best records from a set of results. For current maintenance customers this service automatically assigns a weighted score to each record displayed. A numeric score between 0 and 100 is assigned. BookWhere also uses a traffic light metaphor to visually identify Good, Average, Poor or Unknown quality MARC records.

Media Type Analysis
BookWhere 6 will categorise incoming records by Media Type. Use this tool to identify only Music CDs or DVDs and videos and with a single click filter the record list to show only the type of material you need. Cataloguing CDs is now a breeze. Use the QuickSearch Toolbar entering the Artist name as the Author Term and the CD's Title under the Title Term, click Search then check off the Music CD in the Analysis panel!
Updated Record List
BookWhere's Record List now shows Rating and Score as attributes of records returned by a search. Click on the column heading Rating or Score to sort records according to these values. Media Type Icons can also be sorted now!
Updated Analysis Window
BookWhere's Analysis Window now shows Rating icons to group records returned by a search according to their quality. A single click lets you filter out all but the best records from your search!
Record Analysis using Media Type Icons
Having difficulty locating multimedia materials? BookWhere 6 allows records to be analysed based on their media type (format from record leader) using easily identifiable icons. Select the desired format to limit record list results to just those types of records being searched. e.g. CDs, DVDs, Computer files, Books, etc.

and more features...
- Workflow Improvement - Export/SendTo process
A checkbox on the Export/SendTo status message dialogue allows for suppression of this popup. For experienced users, save several mouse movements and clicks for each record exported.
- Easily Set a Default database group
Simply right-mouse click over any Database Group in the Choose Databases Window and choose 'Set as Default'. BookWhere will automatically select this group of databases for searching in all future sessions. No more manually selecting databases to search!
- Use Export and SendTo when opening a file of MARC records
Have you ever received a file of MARC records and wanted to use BookWhere to select and export or SendTo a subset of these records? The Actions menu now allows access to these features when a file of MARC records is opened in BookWhere.
- Windows platforms supported: Windows XP, Windows 2000
Since the release of BookWhere 5.0 we will no longer be supporting the Windows
95 or Windows 98 platforms. BookWhere 4.3.1 and BookWhere Academic 4.5.0 are
the last releases of BookWhere available for these older Windows operating
systems.
- Unicode™ support
BookWhere now supports search, display and export of MARC records
encoded using MARC-8, Latin-1 or UTF-8. This is particularly important
when working with Arabic, CJK, Hebrew, Russian and many other non-Latin based
language materials.
- Database Selection easier than ever!
Now that BookWhere provides connection information to nearly 3,000 databases
we've created an easier and more intuitive Choose Databases window which includes filtering by keyword. The database list can more rapidly locate the desired library resource. In addition you may customise the display of database attributes to
your liking, create groups of databases, add local database definitions and
delete library catalogues from the full list, all from one easy to use interface.
- One click Management of Database Groups (Favourites)
Right mouse-click over any Database in the list to instantly add it to one
of your Groups or create a new Group on the fly. Double-click on a group
name in the Choose Databases list to expand the group and see member databases.
Right-click over a member to remove it from the group. Choose any
group to make it a default for use in new search sessions (Options>Settings>General
tab).
- AutoSync Improvements
With the dramatic increase in the number of Z39.50 database connection parameters
being maintained, an improved service now delivers updates to the BookWhere
client several hundred times faster. As well database updates are now keyed
against a unique internal record number at WebClarity so AutoSync will
not damage Database Groups which may be defined locally each time we are notified of a library changing its connection parameters.
- Adding New Databases made easy!
Adding new databases is now easier than ever, right from the Choose Databases window: right-click>New Database and enter all of the database information on a single screen. You can even test the database definition from an option at the bottom of the screen .
- Network Test
In today's complex networking environments, we've made the process of determining connectivity even simpler – a network test within BookWhere can help to pinpoint connectivity problems.
- QuickSearch Toolbar
We've incorporated at the top of every search session a quick search toolbar that accomodates the majority of searches our users wish to complete without having additional dialogue boxes opening to enter each query.
- Improved Workflow when Exporting Records
New settings facilitate record appending for more rapid export without multiple dialogues.
- Enhanced Display Rules
BookWhere comes preloaded with hundreds of display rules. These rules control the behaviour of the record list display and exporting in tabbed text format.
- Revised Batch Searching
The process of submitting a batch of records has been considerably simplified. Batches may be submitted now without the need for external software.
- Batch Results Window
The results of batch searching make finding records a breeze. Now, the results will display those records found in one list, and those not found in another. Resubmitting those found against additional targets is accomplished without need to rebuilding the list… All from within the Batch process.
